Fall Vegetable Ramen, a Purple Carrot Meal Kit Review - NoRecipeRequired
Purple Carrot is a 100% plant based meal kit service based out the Boston area and I gave their Fall Vegetable Ramen with Brussels Sprouts & Butternut Squash the other day.
The first taste of the finished dish actually confused me a bit...and I wasn't sure that I loved it. The truth is, this isn't a super rich/deep flavored ramen with broth that's been cooked down for hours. However, the complexity of the flavor was definitely there and after a few bites I really started to enjoy the recipe. Spicy chilis gave a good amount of heat (that you can control with more or less added in). And that spice was offset by the sweet, roasted butternut squash. The sprouts and Swiss chard provided both a bitterness and a nice texture component. Finally, the smoked nori spice, which I had never had before, gave the ramen an exotic and exciting finish.
Perhaps most important, the ramen noodles themselves were very nice. Any time there's pasta involved I worry about it being soft and mushy, but it was easy to get these noodles al dente, and the texture and flavor was great.

Pork Carnitas Tacos; a Review of HelloFresh - NoRecipeRequired.com
Переглядів 6 тис.5 років тому
Hello Fresh costs as little as $7/serving...but you can try them for even less with $60 off your first order: Use www.kqzyfj.com/click-8739408-13030552 While these tacos shouldn’t really be labeled “carnitas”...as traditional carnitas is slow roasted pork shoulder, fortunately, the name is about my only criticism of the recipe. It took me about 35 - 40 minutes to cook, and at the end of the tim...

Review of HelloFresh's Crushed Peppercorn Steak - NoRecipeRequired.com
Переглядів 3,5 тис.5 років тому
Most of the meal kit providers have a version of peppercorn steak, and I've found some better than others. Overall, I really liked the Hello Fresh version - primarily due to the peppercorn sauce itself. It was really great flavor, and the directions for keep the peppercorns lightly crushed, were spot on. Review of HelloFresh's Sriracha Cha Cha Chicken - NoRecipeRequired.com
Переглядів 1,4 тис.5 років тому
Sriracha is all over the place today, from candy to chips, and I was intrigued to give HelloFresh's take on sriracha chicken a try. Along with the chicken, they have you roasting up some sweet potatoes and doing a quick roast on some broccoli (my favorite way to cook it). Of course, most importantly, was it any good? Yeah. It was pretty solid. There wan't anything that blew me out of the water ...
Simple Homemade Avocado Toast with Poached Egg - NoRecipeRequired.com

Avocado toast has made breakfast better. It's all over the place with so many versions it makes your head spin. I love the creativity I see at the various bunch spots I frequent, but I've taken to make a simple and delicious version of my own at home. My version is topped with a soft poached egg, and garnished with a bit of red pepper flakes and paprika, which gives the toast a bit of spice and...
Review of HelloFresh's Juicy Lucy with Tomato Onion Jam - NoRecipeRequired.com

For those unfamiliar, the Juicy Lucy is a cheeseburger - with the cheese stuffed on the inside. As people are quite creative, the recipe has evolved to include all kinds of cheese and non-cheese stuffings alike. Most importantly, when done right, the Juicy Lucy is simply delish! HelloFresh's version is stuffed with cheddar cheese, paired with a tomato-onion "jam" and an arugula side salad. Of c...
Review of Purple Carrot's Skillet Fettuccine - NoRecipeRequired.com
Переглядів 1,4 тис.5 років тому
I recently ordered and cooked, three Purple Carrot recipes recipes, and while I liked them all, this Skillet Fettuccine was my clear favorite. The dish itself is relatively simple. A quick sauce, made from tomato paste and (vegan) butter, coats the freshly cooked fettuccine. To add some body, texture and protein to the dish, Purple Carrot provides chic-peas, which are separately fried (on the s...
How To Make Sriracha Coleslaw - NoRecipeRequried.com

Some days I get the feeling sriracha is taking over the world. While not quite up there with ketchup, I'm seeing it all over..including the latest potato chip flavors And as I love it...I'm perfectly fine with that. Here I take a fairly standard coleslaw recipe and add a good bit of Sriracha to the dressing. In addition to a nice bit of heat, the sriracha also gives a tanginess that I just love...
Review of Dinnerly's Spinach Pesto Pasta - NoRecipeRequired.com
Переглядів 1,1 тис.5 років тому
Dinnerly's meal kits focus on simple meals, quickly prepared, that of course taste great. With their Spinach Pesto Pasta (with roasted tomatoes) they do a good job nailing most of that. This is a simple pasta dish, and very loose take on a pesto. Rather than making a pesto sauce, the core ingredients are separately mixed into the pasta. The result is a dish much simpler to make than traditional...
Review of Purple Carrot's Tempeh Tikki Masala Tacos - NoRecipeRequired.com
Переглядів 4955 років тому
I recently tried the Tempeh Tikki Masala tacos from Purple Carrot. I really like the idea of "exotic" tacos, and so the notion of Indian flavors in a taco really appealed to me. And the flavors here did not disappoint. The Tikki Marsala sauce made with onion, ginger, garlic, tomato pasta and garam masala was quite rich & tasty. For me, I could have used a bit more heat in the sauce, but that co...

Review of Home Chef's Chicken Kiev - NoRecipeRequired.com

Home Chef took a few liberties with their chicken kiev recipe (it's generally stuffed with butter - not topped), but it is still a very tasty recipe. I don't know why I never thought of putting it in a bag before...just had a "duh" moment. I usually just pressed on a cutting board I could curl up & put in the compost. This is MUCH easier! Thanks buddy! Always looking for less mess! Cheers to you from my midnight cooking storm that's about to blow up the kitchen lol. xx

Thanks! Usually I can separate cloves one by one, but sometimes I get a very tightly packed bulb -- and trying to get a fingernail in can actually be painful. 🙂 Looks like a great method. "It's the little things." 🙂

Stems from the mushroom are good to boil, to then simmer. Strain liquid to add as gravy flavor or soup. Taste savory umami flavor. You can also steam your vegetables in the mushroom water from your mushroom stems.
